‘Skeleton Crew’ Already Primed for a Season Two According to Series Creators

For the first time since The Mandalorian, it looks like we finally have a Star Wars property that everyone can agree on. The newest entry to the Star Wars universe, Skeleton Crew, premiered last week on Disney+ with its first two episodes and it was a hit. Between the easter eggs, the easy story to get into, and space pirate theme, this show takes lore from Star Wars and presents it in a way that fans new and old can get into.

With The Mandalorian film now wrapped and in post production, it’s time for Lucasfilms to start figuring out what the path for their future will look like to help maintain the momentum they current have. As long as Skeleton Crew keeps up its quality, which I’m sure it will as the first two episodes introduced a number of mysteries that fans have already become invested in (what is At Attin, why does Wim have Old Republic credits, is Jude Law’s character actually Captain Silvo, etc). So, how about a season two?

Well, it looks like that is already in the cards. The website Collider spoke exclusively to show creates Jon Watts & Christopher Ford, who had this to say about their thoughts for a second season:

Jon Watts & Christopher Ford of ‘Skeleton Crew’

We 100% have an idea for a second season and know what we would do. […] We have a built-in ticking clock of the kids and their age, and by the time we would get production going, we know what age they would be. So, we would be writing towards that. You’ll be growing up with the kids . […] It would be something like [a three to four-year time jump] to make sense. We haven’t seen the kids in a while, so it just depends on how tall the kids are. But we wouldn’t do like a Stranger Things thing where we’re like ‘It’s the next day,’ because it won’t be.”

While it has been noted a few times that the show has taken mild inspiration from Stranger Things (at least the dynamics of the core crew of kids), they specifically cited this as something they won’t be doing with their series. In the Netflix kid-led horror show, each season picks up almost directly where the last left off. Skeleton Crew will have a different strategy, as Ford explains:

“It’s built into it that it would be a bigger time jump forward because it does take so long to get things moving. This isn’t like it would take place the next day because the kids are going to be older. […] There are so many repercussions. It’s like, you kind of want to catch up later.”

Although it’s too early to accurately interpret what Watts and Ford are talking about specifically since we don’t know what the rest of the season looks like, we at least know that there will be some sort of gap between the seasons which usually points at some kind of “epic” finale rather than some sort of small scale ending that builds into the next season. Only time will tell if this is holds true for this series.
