Even with Avengers: Doomsday still a year away from release, Marvel fans are gearing up for the first round of trailers for the film which should premier attached to the new Avatar: Fire and Ash being released in theaters on the 19th. Rumors claim there will be a series of four different teasers for the film, and now entertainment insider Daniel Richtman has shared an alleged description of what fans can expect from the first trailer to be released to the public.
[Potential spoilers ahead]
According to Richtman, the first trailer will focus on the return of Steve Rogers as Captain America and will place him front and center, effectively “establishing him as the lead character” of the film. The trailer is described to highlight Rogers’ life after the events of Endgame, showing a short scene featuring the character that will include him riding his motorcycle home and introducing us to his and (presumably) Peggy Carter’s new baby boy. The trailer will end in typical Marvel fashion with the tagline, “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday“. The trailers aren’t said to be four full trailers, but four short scenes featuring the leads from the film.
Many fans thought the first teaser would focus primarily on the return of Robert Downy Jr. as Doom, and those fans would not be totally wrong as according to another insider MyTimeToShineHello, it was mentioned that Marvel Studios was planning on featuring a Doom-centric trailer first before changing up the order last minute. It was also mentioned that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will be the focus of one of the trailers as well. The focus of the fourth trailer has not been mentioned anywhere yet but I have my money on Spider-Man or the Fantastic Four.
It seems like a strange idea to do a throwback to the original Avengers as the main focus of Doomsday, but it’s been claimed that the film wills serve as a direct sequel to Endgame so at the end of the day it actually makes a ton of sense. One of the major rumored plot points is that Doom will be targeting Steve Rogers, so showing us where he is after the events of the last Avengers film sets up the stakes and what Rogers now has to lose, and why he would be willing to jump back into the fight after retiring from being on the team. It might also serve as a satisfactory palette cleanser for all the… “misguided” (put nicely) decisions Marvel has been making since the last Avengers movie. Each of the four teasers will all allegedly end with a countdown to Doomsday.
Avengers: Doomsday will show many different teams coming together – The remaining original Avengers, the Thunderbolts* (or the New Avengers as they were renamed at the end of their movie), the Fantastic Four, and even the original Fox studios X-Men in an effort to stop Doom from conquering the multiverse. Pretty much every Marvel character from the last 15 years of movies will have a seat at the table and the film will serve as a way to both wrap up the “multiverse saga” and propel the franchise into the future to set the stage for Secret Wars and the introduction of the X-Men. The only team so far I haven’t seen mentioned as being a part of this film is the Guardians of the Galaxy, but I would imagine Starlord, Rocket, and the rest of the galactic misfits will also be in the mix somewhere.
The first trailer that is said to feature Steve Rogers will be attached to Avatar: Fire and Ash when it premiers on December 19th, and the trailer will rotate every couple weeks throughout the run of the film to a new version that showcases another character from Doomsday. While all of these claims are still technically fan speculation as none of this has been officially confirmed by Marvel Studios, we are confident that some of this is at least based on truth based on the sources providing the information. It will be interesting to see if this whole four trailers idea comes to fruition, and even if you don’t want to sit through Fire and Ash just to see a Marvel trailer (which I am going to anyway because the Avatar movies are pretty good, and Disney synergy and all that good stuff) I would make the assumption that they will also be released online the day of the movies premier and then ever couple weeks as they rotate them out in theaters.
Are you excited for the Doomsday trailers to be released, and are you going to go see Avatar: Fire and Ash to hopefully get your first glimpse of the film? I know I already have my ticket. Avengers: Doomsday if the fifth official Avengers film in the franchise and is scheduled to be released next year, December 18th, 2026.
