  • New Rumor Suggests ‘Blade’ MCU Film Has Been Officially Scrapped, Will Join ‘Midnight Sons’ Instead

The Blade reboot for the MCU has been a long gestating project with the film first being announced in 2019 and his character making an off screen cameo in 2021’s Eternals. Since then, not much has been said about the movie except that it has been delayed a worrying amount of times. A new rumor suggests that the worry may not be in vain, and that the film may actually be completely scrapped at this point.

According to the The DisInsider, the movie is most likely cancelled. In the 2025 year end mailbag, the website was asked about the Blade movie (among a lot of other juicy Disney film information from Frozen 4 and the Hercules live action remake, to Cruella 2 and Hocus Pocus 3). When asked about Blade, the author admits they have, “not been the best at nailing this stuff down” – so take this rumor with a small grain of salt

“That said, despite everyone saying it is still in development, I believe this movie is dead and that any introduction of Blade into the MCU will come in the form of an Avengers or Midnight Sons movie and even then that won’t be until Secret Wars or even later at this point as the studio gets ready to introduce the X-Men.

This rumor is two fold: first, the website suggests that production on Blade is officially dead. This in itself is a slight bombshell because despite the film being delayed a few times, I believe most fans thought it was still going to be developed eventually. Aside from that, the website also suggests that the character (played by actor Mahershala Ali) will still be brought into the MCU officially, but as a member in the upcoming Midnight Sons team up movie.

The author mentions Blade could join an Avengers team up, but I personally believe Midnight Sons would make a lot more sense and would also wager that a lot of the development effort that went into Blade was probably just “ported over” (so to speak) to the Midnight Sons movie. We also saw the new Blade in both What If…? and Marvel Zombies animated series so we know that the studio is eventually planning on using Mahershala Ali as their version of Blade, despite bringing back Wesley Snipes to play his original version of the character in Deadpool and Wolverine.

As it stands right now, we’re not quite sure if this rumor is correct but the author does seem to have a lot of insight into Disney productions so I am going to wager there is probably some truth to this. I also think that adding Blade to a Midnight Sons film is a much better gameplan.

Midnight Sons are a team of supernatural Marvel characters, and members of their roster have included such names as Moon Knight, Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, Blade, Morbius, and even Wolverine. As it stands, fans have wanted to see a proper Ghost Rider for a decade (although the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. version was not half bad), and we already have members like Doctor Stranger and Moon Knight. Doctor Strange solo films have not been received as well as many fans would have hoped and Moon Knight has been looking for something to do since the end of his series, so a Midnight Sons film could act as a redemption for these characters as well. Maybe even throw some Deadpool in there? Okay maybe not.

Do you want to see a Blade solo film still, or do you think the character would do much better in a Midnight Sons team up? Let us know your thoughts below in the comments!
