  • ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer to Premier Before ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’

For weeks, the internet has been touting that the Avengers: Doomsday trailer would be coming out the same day as the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow trailer, both thought to be released today, December 11th. Well, it looks like is most likely not going to be the case, at least for Doomsday, and that it is because it is going to premier before Avatar: Fire and Ash which comes to theaters this month on the 19th.

To begin, let’s just be honest here: Supergirl and Doomsday are both (most likely) going to be entertaining movies, but they are just not on the same level to where they should be directly competing with one another. Doomsday is going to be a massive Marvel blockbuster featuring a major ensemble of cast and characters on the same level as Infinity War and Endgame. While Supergirl is certainly a solid step in the right direction for the DCU, it is a solo-film centered around Superman’s cousin. Am I, as a movie goer, looking forward to it? Of course. Am I looking forward to it on the same scale I am looking forward to Doomsday? Not a chance, and movie studios know this. Marvel knows enough to not place Doomsday as direct competition to Supergirl because let’s face it, it diminishes everything that they are going for in terms of size and scale with this film. Doomsday would be on par with a Justice League film, and placing it as direct competition to anything lower than that delivers a very wrong message about the hype.

Secondly, we do know that the trailer release is imminent. The runtime for the trailer was just recently released at one minute and twenty five seconds. That in itself is not a huge piece of info as most first trailers fall somewhere around that mark, but just the fact there is a posted length time does mean that we can expect to see the trailer sooner rather than later. Disney’s whole thing is brand synergy, and with the company owning both Marvel and Fox (and the Avatar films by extension), it’s almost a guarantee that if there is a Marvel movie to advertise, the James Cameron blockbuster franchise is the perfect vessel to get it out there to the right demographic of audiences.

You an buy tickets now for the third film in the Avatar franchise, Fire and Ash, premiering in theaters on the 19th. As an added bonus, you’ll most likely get to see the first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday.

Avatar: Fire and Ash is the third film in the now-Disney-owned franchise, and was originally planned by the director three years before the original Avatar (2009) came out all the way back in 2006. Twenty years, a different studio, and presumably a ton of rewrites later and the third film is now a reality as a sequel to 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water. When the original Avatar came out in 2009, it broke a ton of box office records by utilizing the latest cinema technology at the time and leveraging it to almost perfection. It only makes sense that Disney would focus on the massive franchise as not only a cinematic endeavor, but also a property that can be ported to their theme parks with a recreation of Pandora (the planet the film takes place on) currently in Disney World’s Animal Kingdom, and a new version coming to Disneyland with construction starting next year in the same park that is already home to Marvel’s Avengers Campus, Disney’s California Adventure. Two massive franchises, both owned by Disney, both even being housed in the same theme park. If that doesn’t scream, “cross-promotion synergy” I officially have no idea what else does.

So, with all this information laid out before us, it almost seems like a no-brainer that the Doomsday trailer will officially be released on the 19th alongside Fire and Ash. If you go see the midnight premier on the 18th going into the 19th, I’d bet one of my minuscule pay checks that you will be one of the first lucky people to officially see the trailer for Avengers: Doomsday. If you aren’t going to see the film that night/morning, I would presume that the trailer will also be online almost right away the morning of the 19th. There will almost certainly be people trying to film the trailer in the cinema to be the first to post online, and Disney/Fox/Marvel is already more than aware of this so instead of sullying the Marvel name by letting fans get their first view of RDJ as Doom from a grainy, shaky Go-Pro they will want to release the trailer as soon as possible to maintain the films presumed quality and integrity. So, with that, we are saying unequivocally that the trailer will be released the morning of the 19th and if you want to see it asap then make sure to get tickets to the midnight release of Avatar: Fire and Ash. We’re not claiming to have any cosmic insider knowledge, but we have a lot of experience with this (and a decent amount of common sense), so I feel confident making this claim.

We’re you looking forward to the Doomsday trailer today? Do you think it will be released on the 19th and before Avatar: Fire and Ash? Are we just completely full of s***? Let us know what you think down in the comments!
