  • Major Rumored Updates On ‘Doomsday’ Roles Revealed: Doctor Strange, Steve Rogers, Loki, Deadpool and More (Possible Spoilers)

With the first Avengers: Doomsday trailer inevitably close, more details are surfacing about what some of our favorite MCU characters will be doing in the movie and the role they will be playing. Without giving too much away, insider Alex Perez has given fans a ton of information on what some of the main MCU heroes will be up to in Doomday. During a Patreon/Discord Q&A, Perez answered questions on characters such as Sentry, Steve Rogers, Doctor Strange, Loki, and even Deadpool to name a few. Be warned, there are some very minor spoilers throughout the article.

Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Let’s start with good ol’ Captain America. The original one that we haven’t seen since Endgame. So, even though Steve Rogers has found his peace and is officially retired from the hero game, it looks as if Doom isn’t going to let that happen so easily. According to Perez, when asked about what Steve’s role will be in the film and if it will be a cameo or a more significant role, it was revealed that the role will in fact be somewhat significant as Doom will be “after him”:

eme: Is Steve’s role in Doomsday significant, or is it more like a cameo?

Alex Perez: It is fairly significant. Doom is after him.”

Your guess is as good as ours as to what that actually means for the overall plot. Now, if the original Captain America is going to play a fairly significant role in the film it’s probably safe to bet that his sidekick, Bucky Barnes aka the Winter Solider will also be somewhere not far behind. It also helps that Bucky was a main member of the Thunderbolts* team, aka the New Avengers. According to Perez, the character played by Sebastian Stan will be a core member as he has been on both the Avengers and the New Avengers, and will play an instrumental part in linking those two teams:

megandcheese: Hi Alex and Lizzie, hope all is well! Happy holidays to you both! I feel like Bucky has been underutilized in the last few projects, but he keeps getting placed fairly high-up in cast lists for Doomsday. Are they finally giving him a bigger role, or is that just Marvel banking on Sebastian Stan’s name recognition?

Alex Perez: Sebastian Stan is going to be one of the main core players when it comes to trying to be the mediator between the Avengers and the Thunderbolts*”

Bob aka Sentry aka Void from Thunderbolts* (2025)

A second member of the Thunderbolts*, Sentry aka the Void aka Bob, was also asked about during the Q&A. Specifically if we were going to see a Doom/Sentry faceoff, because let’s just face it, if any character from any Marvel movie over the past few years stands a chance against Doom, it’s Sentry. At the end of Thunderbolts*, we saw Bob kind of just hanging out in the New Avengers tower with a very chill, zen like attitude. Will that be the Bob we see in Doomsday?

Xekshek: Hi Alex, as always, thanks for doing this! Can you tease Sentry’s role in Doomsday? Feels like a Sentry vs. Doom scene is inevitable (I hope!).

Alex Perez: Sentry is… Bob. He’s just trying to be relaxed and be chill throughout the movie. It isn’t until Yelena is in a precarious situation that he’s forced to bring out Sentry.”

Doctor Strange and Clea in the Multiverse of Madness (2022) post-credit scene. (For real though, what were you thinking with that third eye Marvel?)

One major Avengers character we haven’t heard much about lately is Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. The (kind of) sorcerer supreme was last seen in 2022’s Multiverse of Madness once again going into a tear in the multi-verse with sorceress Clea (played by Charlize Theron) during the film’s post credit scene, and growing an awful looking CGI third eye. It was not confirmed what Strange and Clea are actually going to be doing, but it sounds as if we will get payoff to this plot line in Doomsday:

Vinny: Hi Alex, thank you for taking the time here. I was wondering if you could provide some clarity on Doctor Strange’s role in Avengers: Doomsday and how Strange fits into the story?

Alex Perez: Doctor Strange will investigate incursions with Clea and find ways to fix them before the Multiverse collapses.”

Tom Hiddleston in Loki season 1 (2021)

Another major character that fans always want to know about is Loki. The character has been a fan favorite since his main villain status in the original Avengers film, and his show on Disney+ is arguably one of the best the streaming platform has released. The end of Loki season 2 gave Loki a major upgrade and essentially put him as the bring that oversees all of the multiverse. There is a good chance that also places him directly in Doom’s crosshairs. So, while the show’s first season was heavily alluding to having a major role in the Kang the Conqueror plotline, it looks as if the show successfully pivoted to set Loki up for a major role in Doomsday.

In the comics, the Beyonders are a group that exists outside of any of the timelines and manipulate events to their will. According to Perez, the idea of the Beyonders is not one that will actually be in Doomsday or Secret Wars but the role will be filled by Loki instead:

walker (or rayne): Hey guys! Thank you guys for doing this! Any chance the Beyonders play a role in Doomsday? Specifically with Doom’s motivations, or will Loki take their place as kind of why Doom is so hellbent on his mission?

Alex Perez: Loki takes their place. The Beyonders are not in this movie.”

Shuri and Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022)

Only in the last week was it confirmed that the new Black Panther, Shuri, would be reprising her role in the film for the first time since Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After T’Challa dies in the MCU, Shuri takes over the mantle and leads her nation in a war against Namor and the Atlantians. Prior to wearing the mask, she played a fairly significant role in Avengers: Infinity War and a major role in the first Black Panther film. Now, Perez confirms she will be coming back in Doomsday as the new Black Panther and what we can expect to see from her character in terms of plot. It is not only confirmed that we will be seeing Shuri once again, but also Namor:

“Hey Alex and Lizzie, thanks for this! This question was asked before filming, but after filming, what is Shuri’s role and importance to the story, and how does she come to play? (story being Doomsday)

Alex Perez: She’ll be appealing to Namor and the Atlanteans to help in the fight against Doom.”

Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool in Deadpool and Wolverine (2024)

The last character we will be talking about is Deadpool. Now that we’ve seen Deadpool and Wolverine, it pretty much goes without saying the MCU’s Merc with a Mouth will be required to have some sort of role in Doomsday whether is be a connecting link between the MCU and the X-Men, or just a quick one off cameo to add some comic relief to a movie that is all but certain to have a dark tone throughout. It sounds as if in reality Deadpool will have a blended role, with a cameo that could point to something potentially larger in the story (or maybe future stories to come with Secret Wars and beyond):

walker (or rayne): What can we expect from Deadpool in the next two Avengers movies? Just cameos or maybe a small role in Doomsday and something bigger in Secret Wars?

Alex Perez: We’ll get to learn why Thor was crying. (Laughs). No, but in all seriousness, most of these cameos will have a part to play in the story. One of those things will be to see the effects of the incursions in their respective universes and be called upon by a “higher authority” for the fight.”

Well, there you have it. While Doomsday is sure to be packed with a ton more characters than those listed above, this at least gives us an idea of what to expect from some of the most well known and most loved MCU heroes. With the trailer coming out very soon – we’re guessing attached to the new Avatar: Fire and Ash coming to theaters this month on the 19th, and possibly even sooner than that – with a lot of reports claiming it will drop online tomorrow the 11th.

While we can’t confirm the details in this article are 100% accurate, Perez has a solid track record as an insider so we’re guessing at least some of these details made it to the final draft of the script. Aside from everything mentioned above, what other characters are you curious about in Doomsday? Do you think Marvel is headed in the right direction with another massive film on an Endgame sized scale? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments! Avengers: Doomsday is set to release next year on December 18, 2026.
