  • ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Reportedly Based Off Two Specific Comic Story-Arcs

With not much information known yet about the plot of Avengers: Doomsday and still almost another full year before the movie premiers in theaters, fans are already heavily speculating what they think we will receive in terms of story and elements used from the original comics. We may now have a few sources to start reading up on if we want to know what the film’s plot will be about, as scooper James Mack has revealed on Twitter that the movie has two main comic inspirations that the film will use elements from. Mack is still a relatively unknown scooper but after looking up his track record I am inclined to believe there may be some truth behind this:

—> (Warning: If these reports are true then major plot spoilers for Avengers: Doomsday ahead) <—

According to the scooper, Doomsday will be based off of elements from both 2014’s Time Runs Out and the Loki-Prime vs Doom conflict from Avengers Forever. In Time Runs Out, the universe is facing an inevitable “Doomsday” due to incursions happening throughout the multiverse. Thinking back to the post credit scene of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, this tracks. The original comic leads directly into Doom’s takeover in Secret Wars, and would make sense to do this in the movies as well considering Secret Wars will be following up Doomsday.

The Loki vs Doom conflict also makes a ton of sense because where we last saw Loki at the end of his self titled series, he is basically Loki Prime. It has also previously been reported that Loki will play the role of the Beyonders from the original Time Runs Out. Loki can oversee the multiverse, so if this is correct I would assume aside from Doctor Strange, he will be the first to see the incursions and the destruction they can cause and will bring it to the attention of the Avengers, who will then enlist the help of the New Avengers, the Fantastic Four, and probably even the X-Men in an effort to come up with a solution. If the movie follows the comic, then Loki will appear to win at the end but in reality two planets still collide and the result is Doom’s takeover and the Battleworld setup going into Secret Wars.

Aside from what we can expect in plot, Mack also let slip what we can expect from Steve Rogers’ role in the movie:

According to Mack, when Captain America went back in time at the end of Avengers: Endgame, his actions somehow changed the multiverse, and may even be what began the incursions. Rogers also reportedly won’t be the protagonist of the film as many news outlets have reported over the last week due to the trailer scheduling. The character will simply be included to help move the plot forward, and I’m also assuming to appeal to nostalgia for when the MCU made sense.

As of right now, take this report as a rumor because none of this has been (or will probably ever be) confirmed. It will be interesting to see how many of these comic plot elements will be used, but I think most fans have already made a lot of these connections themselves and this scooper just helped to confirm what many were already assuming was going to happen.
